Chennai’s Spencer Plaza is today the largest shopping complex in south India. From the 1950s Spencer’s was known not only for being the largest department store in Asia and Africa, but also for being among the city’s best known landmarks. A fire in 1981 left the building in ruins. The complex as we see it today was built after the old structure was pulled down.
With around 400 shops on 3 floors (and 4 floors of office space),the project covers on area of 10,85,000 sqft. Escalators, centralized air-conditioning, an information desk, spotless corridors and the irresistible draw of some of the best-known brand names in the country-all these make Spencer Plaza a shopping experience with few equals.
